James A. Gertis, of Mercer Island died at home on November 9, 2003.  He was 70.

Mr. Gertis was born on June 22, 1933 in Buffalo, NY.  He was raised in Buffalo and graduated from Amherst High School. He moved to Seattle after serving in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He graduated in 1969 from the University of Washington, with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He married Maribel Yenne on April 22, 1960 in Seattle.  He joined Boeing in 1957, and worked for Boeing for 40 years, retiring in 1997.

In his leisure time he loved history, fine food, jazz, barbecues, and a good mystery novel. Most of all he loved his family. Proceeded in death by his wife Maribel (Yenne);

Survivors include two sons, David and Mark Gertis; daughter, Trudi Gertis; brother, Neill Gertis.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2003 at Mercer Island Covenant Church, 3200 78th Ave SE, Mercer Island, WA 98040.  A reception will follow.  His final resting place will be the Kingston Cemetery in Kingston, Washington.
