ROY J. DEEB,  75, died Thursday, June 17, 2004.  Born in Tallahassee, he moved to St. Petersburg in 1937.  Roy was an alumnus of the University of Notre Dame and a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, and Beta Alpha Psi.  Roy was a developer and general contractor, building single and multi-family residential properties as well as commercial properties.  Throughout his career, Roy developed many apartment projects and owned a lumber company, Peninsular Building Supply.  Roy was also a Real Estate Broker.  Known for his stewardship and service to the community, Roy has been a member of the St. Jude Cathedral Parish since 1954, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Parish Council Member.  From 1949 to the present, Roy worked tirelessly and lovingly for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, a Catholic organization that assists families and people in need.  Roy was involved with the St. Vincent's Food Center to serve a noon meal to the city's needy, hungry and homeless, the Ozanam Inn, an apartment building for the homeless, and the Caulfield House, a subsidixed elderly housing building downtown.  Roy also founded ALPHA, A Beginning, Inc. in 1979, a residential program for women with troubled pregnancies.   Thousands of women have received assistance through ALPHA over the last 25 years.  Roy dedicated his life to service for the less fortunate, and received many awards and recognition for his dedication to helping others.  These include:  The Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Award from Pope John Paul II, for outstanding service to the Diocese of St. Petersburg for over 50 years, the Sertoma District and State Service to Mankind Awards, the Danny Thomas Award for his work with ALSAC and the St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, the Helen Davis Award from the Children's Home of Tampa, the Mayor's Brotherhood/Sisterhood award, the St. Vincent de Paul Hat Award, the Clearwater Jaycees Employer of the Year Award and numerous other service awards.  Roy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn K., children, Terry (Judy) Deeb, Steve (Zea) Deeb, Debbie Deeb, Mark (Susy) Deeb, Kevin (Joyce) Deeb, Kathy (Paul) Roberts, Mary Ann (James) Smith, Brian (Theresa) Deeb, Patrice (Tod) Hammill, a sister, Karen Slaughter, 19 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandson.
