     Joyce Melvenia Tarvin Adams was born July 23, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri to Phillip and Lillie B. Tarvin. She was the third child born to this union. Her father (Phillip), Mother (Lillie B.), sisters Coralie Moore and Charlesetta Moore Lawrence preceded her in death. Additionally two former husbands Manual Harris and James Wilkins also preceded her in death.

     Joyce was educated in the East St. Louis Public School System. She received her primary education at Dunbar Elementary School and Hughes Wuinn Jr. High School. She prodly represented the Orange and Black as a ''Mighty Tiger'' of Lincoln Sr. High School, where she grduated from in 1961. Joyce attended and graduated from SIU Edwardsville College.

     Joyce worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, (HUD) for approximetly 34 years, retiring on January 3, 2006. She was a true professional and rose to the rank of Supervisory Project Manager in her profession. She loved to work, coworkers with upward mobility on the job.

     Joyce also was an international and domestic traveler. She spent many days in foreign countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Africa. She had a passion for traveling and made friends all over the world.

     Joyce was born again and accepted Jesus Christ into her life at the Holy Ghost Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in 1961. Her last membership was at the All Nations Deliverance Ministries Church under the pastor ship of Christ Lawrence, her niece.

     Joyce leaves to cherish her memory: her two brothers, Tyrone and Anthony Tarvin; her daughter, Monica (DeMarcus) Marble; adopted son Eyasu Asfaw; former husband Elgee Adams; her special friend John (Buck) Newsome; sister-in-law, Hartemia; nephews and nieces, Tyrone Jr., Taisha, Tamya and Tiffany Tarvin, Anthony (Fats), Anthony Jr., Chitahka, Justine, Atiya, Rashad and Jannah Tarvin, Christ'l Cherise and Terrell Lawrence. She also leaves a host of cousins, friends, co-worker, church family and many others.
