Gloria Sahlin Christensen passed away Monday, January 19, 2009 in Seattle at the age of 82.

Gloria was born June 25, 1926 in Tacoma Washington to David and Edith Sahlin.  She was a loving sister to younger brothers David and Edward.  After graduating from Stadium High School she went on to attend North Park College in Chicago, returning home after one year to help care for her mother.  She graduated from the University of Puget Sound where she received her degree in Home Economics and a minor in Music.  She married Lawrence Christensen in 1951 and moved to Portland, Oregon where they spent the next 27 years raising their family before moving to the Seattle area in 1980.  They shared 54 years together until his passing in 2005.

Gloria's joy was being a mother to her children and wife and inseparable friend to her husband.  She was able to share her love of music and the piano with others as the organist at the Covenant churches in Tacoma and Portland.  Gloria developed a passion for travel and enjoyed visiting different corners of the world including the birthplace of her mother in Sweden. She was proud of her Swedish heritage and loved sharing those traditions and time with her extended family.  She was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching her garden come alive in the spring.  She was cherished by her grandchildren and a joy to all who knew her.  Her life was defined by her love of God and devotion to her family.  Her quick wit and ready smile will be missed.

Gloria is survived by daughter Jane Cramer and husband Bruce of Portland, and their children Carl and Tracy;  daughter Marilyn McCracken and husband John of Mill Creek, and their children Josh, Samantha and Cameron;  and her brothers David Sahlin and Edward Sahlin of Tacoma and their families.
