James (''Jay'') Edward Shea, originally of Quincy, died on Monday, June 14, 2010 after a lengthy illness, he was 40. Jay was born and raised in Quincy and spent most of his adult life in the Brockton area. Jay was a resident of Milton Health Care for the past several years. He was the son of the late Florence C. Shea and brother of the late Christopher M. Shea. Jay was a songwriter/musician in several local bands; most notably the heavy-metal bands Dear Life and XXL, each releasing several successful albums between 1989 and 1999. Jay was also an avid Bruins, Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics sports fan. Jay will be sadly missed by all his friends and relatives. He is the uncle of Renee Billings of Avon, Adam Shea and Christopher Shea. Jay is survived by several aunts and uncles; Richard F. Shea of North Carolina, Rita M. Jensen of Braintree, Donald F. Shea of Tiverton, RI, Janice T. Birrittieri of Florida, Karen D. Miller of North Brookfield, MA and Kathleen L. Froio of Quincy and many cousins. Jay was the grandson of the late James Edward, Sr. and Florence M. Shea and nephew of the late Jacqueline A. Shea, James Edward Shea, Jr., Ruth M. Jensen, William J. Shea, Robert R. Shea, Irene H. Cadman, and Maureen M. Downing. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church, 55 Commercial Street, Weymouth Landing, on Monday, June 28th at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Saint Michaels Cemetery, Avon, MA.
