MR. WILLIAM HENRY JOHNSON, affectionately called “Bill” by his family
and friends, was born November 24, 1929 to the union of Cleophus, Sr. and Alma Johnson in Gilmore, Arkansas. He was the oldest of eleven children born to this union. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother,
Calvin Johnson.

Bro. Johnson grew up in Bell City, MO. He moved to St. Louis, MO and was united in holy matrimony to Emma Bell Mixon in 1953. Out of this union, two children were born. He was a dedicated and caring father to his own children and he was also a loving grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.

Bro. Johnson served as a soldier in the United States Army and was honorably
discharged in 1951. He went on to work as a foreman for the Norfolk and Western Railroad Company and worked for Century Electric Company.

Mr.Johnson later served as a maintenance worker in the boiler room at Touchette
Regional Hospital, formally known as Centreville Hospital; he retired in 1986.

Bro. Johnson was baptized into the Church of Christ at the Mary Martin Center under the leadership of Bro. William Baker in 1957. He was an active and faithful member of the Centreville Church of Christ until his death.

Bro. Johnson had several pastimes; hunting, fishing, and gardening. He enjoyed selling his home-grown fruits and vegetables, sharing his talents, and teaching others what he loved to do. He also loved cooking; he was known for
making apple dumplings and biscuits for the Annual Men’s Prayer Breakfast.

Bro. Johnson leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, Emma B. Johnson of Belleville, IL: three daughters, Ethel (Willie) Trice of Benton Harbor, MI, Areatha (Clinton) Thompson of Memphis, TN and Eartha (Thomas) Brown of Fairview Heights, IL; five grandchildren, Anthony (Minia) Johnson of Florissant, MO, Robert Costello, Jr. of MO, Arianna Brown of Collinsville,IL, Adraea Brown of Concord, NH, and Thomas Brown, JR. of Atlanta,GA; two great-grandchildren, Jasmine Burks and Jada Johnson, both of Florissant, MO; eight sisters, Ceola Tate of Elkhardt, IN, Aretha Taylor of Elkhardt, IL, Ester (Oliver) Pettis of Elkhardt, IN, Bettie Johnson of Indianapolis, IN and Jo Ann (Warren) Black of Elkhardt, IN; one brother, Cleophus
