Robert Lyle Howser, of Issaquah WA, returned to his Maker on Tuesday, December 14, 2010.  The son of Russell and Hazel Howser of Urbana IL, he was born in Urbana on August 7, 1930.  He graduated from Urbana High School in 1948, and attended the University of Illinois for one semester.  Mr. Howser served in the Illinois National Guard and then joined the U.S. Navy in 1951, during the Korean War.

He married Nancy Ann Paris, also of Urbana IL, on March 14, 1954.  They moved to North Carolina and then to South Miami FL where he completed a degree in Business at the University of Miami in 1957.  He later completed a Master’s Degree in Adult Education at Washington State University.  Mr. Howser worked in private industry before moving to Ellensburg WA in 1963 where he became Director of Staff Personnel for Central Washington State College.  In 1974, he and his family moved to Clarkston WA/Lewiston ID where he opened and managed the Clarkston Branch of Walla-Walla Community College.  In 1982, he accepted a position with Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston as Director of College Programming.  

He retired in 1989 to manage his investments and to enjoy travels which included sailing, zip lining, and bicycling through many European, Central American, and Far East countries with his wife, Nancy.  

He was President of both the Ellensburg Kiwanis Club and the Lewiston Rotary Club, and was active in many professional groups.   

Survivors include his wife, Nancy, of Issaquah WA, his children, Erin Dodson (Layne) of Boise ID, Rus Howser (Yasuko) of Tokyo, Japan, Brie Ventre (Joel) of Sammamish WA, and Colin Howser (Genny) of Bellingham WA, his grandchildren, Elyse Gibson, Jared Dodson, Johanna and Jade Ventre and Max and Roman Howser, one great-grandchild, Wiley Gibson, and his brother, Wayne Howser (Marian) of Portage MI.
