George E. Osborne, 82, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2011 at his home.  He was born on July 14, 1929 in Daviess Co., KY to the late Thomas C. and Paulette Hamilton Osborne.  He had farmed and was the owner of the Big Dipper.  George built and opened the Big Dipper in April of 1954.  He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and was a graduate of St. Francis Academy in 1947.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising a big garden every year in which he raised many tomatoes that were used at his drive-in.  He had several large pecan trees in his yard and several hickory nut trees in the woods that he loved harvesting the nuts from each year.  George was also preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Walton “Wally” Osborne, Thomas Dixon Osborne, and James Marion “Buddy” Osborne, and three sisters, Delphine Osborne, Catherine Osborne Bosley, and Lucille Osborne Tong.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Patricia Hayden Osborne, three sons, Mark (Bianca) Osborne of Owensboro, Paul (Colette) Osborne of Nashville, TN, and Robert (Terry) Osborne of Owensboro, two daughters, Karen Osborne and Laura (Wes) Allison, all of Owensboro, 11 grandchildren, Jessica Allison, R. T. Taylor, Bradley Osborne, Danielle Osborne Mobley, Ryan Osborne, Amanda Taylor, Jordan Allison, Colby Osborne, Serena Osborne, Renwick Osborne, and Derek Osborne, three great grandchildren, Tyler and Clare Allison and Samira Crowe, two brothers, Albert (Mary) Osborne of Escondido, CA and David Osborne of Owensboro, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 10, at St. Martin Catholic Church with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday with prayers at 7:00 P.M. and after 8:00 A.M. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
