Age 77. Born to eternal life March 31, 2003. Principal of Waukesha Catholic Memorial High School, superintendent of schools for the Milwaukee Archdiocese, and pastor of St. Bruno Parish in Dousman.  Presided at baptisms, marriages and funerals for five generations of family members as well as those near and dear. Died Monday night (March 31, 2003) of heart failure at St. Camillus, Wauwatosa, where he had lived since 2000. Born June 18, 1925, to Daniel P. Hanley Sr. and Ruth Zoeller Hanley, the oldest of their six children. Ordained May 26, 1951 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Milwaukee, the church where his Irish immigrant grandparents, James and Catharine Sullivan Hanley, were married in 1885. First mass at St. Augustine Church, the family parish in Bay View, on May 27, 1951. Assistant pastor at St. Joseph's Parish, Fond du Lac, until 1957. Received a masters degree in education from Marquette University. On September 1, 1958 appointed principal of Catholic Memorial High School. In August 1971, appointed superintendent of Milwaukee Archdiocese schools. He was a powerful advocate of Catholic education, serving a term as president of the Chief Administrators of Catholic Education in the United States. In 1984 returned to parish work as pastor of St. Bruno, Dousman. Retired in 1996 but continued to serve as a consultant to the Milwaukee archbishop. Survivors include a sister, Kathleen Barta of Madison, and four brothers, David (Beverly) of Waukesha, James (Kathleen) of Brown Deer, Daniel (Mary Jo) of Wauwatosa, and Robert (Elaine) of New Berlin, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews. Memorials suggested to Catholic Memorial High School, the Father Hanley Education Fund, 601 East College Ave., Waukesha, WI 53286.

Visitation from SUN 5 - 7 PM and MON 9-10 AM at the Mater Christi Chapel, the Archbishop Cousins Cathilic Center, 3501 South Lake Drive, St. Francis, WI. Mass of Christian Burial MON at 10 AM at the  Mater Christi Chapel, the Most Rev. Richard J. Sklba, presiding. Interment Holy Trinity Cemetery.
