Lucas David Sedgmer, 22, New Athens, Ohio died Friday, May 9, near Fairpoint, Ohio the result of a automobile accident. Lucas was born December 10, 1980 in Wheeling, West Virginia a son of William Sedgmer(Susan) of New Athens and Kay Keyser-Sedgmer(Tony) of New Athens, Ohio. Lucas was a student at West Liberty State College and worked at Strafford Springs in Wheeling. He was a former summer worker for the Harrison County Highway Department; former assistant varsity wrestling coach at Wheeling Park High School; a standout wrestler for the former Cadiz High School where he place third at the Ohio State Division III wrestling meet for three consecutive years; a 1999 graduate of Cadiz High School; an avid outdoorsman; a member of the New Athens Volunteer Fire Department; and attended the New Athens United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, William Sedgmer, Sr. He is survived in addition to his parents; by 2 brothers: William Sedgmer, III and Jacob Sedgmer both of New Athens; a sister, Elisabeth ''Sis'' Sedgmer of New Athens; paternal grandparents, Joann and Gary Graham of Cadiz; maternal grandparents, Edgar ''Auggie'' and Virginia Keyser of New Athens; several Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Calling hours are Sunday, May 11, 3-9, at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Funeral service will be held Monday, May 12, 11:00 a.m., at Scott United Methodist Church, 817 East Market Street, Cadiz, with Rev. Rodney Bowers officiating. Burial follows at Longview Cemetery, New Athens, Ohio.
