MUSCATINE, Iowa – Helen A. Mapes, 96, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Lutheran Homes.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Casket bearers will be Carl Cepuran, Ron DiMonte, Sumner Mapes, Kevin Minchk, Michael Minchk, and Christopher Ray. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bishop Hayes Catholic School or Muscatine Salvation Army.
Helen was born on July 2, 1912, in Muscatine, the daughter of Wendell and Elizabeth Hahnbaum Heuberger. She married Henry W. Mapes on July 9, 1935, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1962.
She worked for 27 years for Northwestern Bell as a service assistant.
She was a member of St. Mary Church, Muscatine General Hospital Auxiliary, Northwestern Bell Telephone Pioneers, and the Women of the Moose. She was a charter member of the St. Mary’s Ladies Guild.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Fred Minchk of Barrington, Illinois; five grandchildren, Marilyn Cepuran and husband, Carl, Michael Minchk and wife, Rita, Jean DiMonte and husband, Rinaldo, Linda Ray and husband, Christopher, and Kevin Minchk; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one daughter, Sally Ann Minchk on June 30, 1996.
